Samsung AC buying guide for Nepal: tonnage, heating and price

Tonnage by room size

Work out the floor area first: length times width, in square feet. A 10 by 12 foot bedroom is 120 sq ft. Samsung's AC buying guide then matches the area to a capacity.

Samsung adds that the table is only a guide. A room may need more capacity if it gets direct sun, holds many people, has heat-producing appliances, or is poorly insulated. Open-plan spaces also need more. If your room sits near the top of a band and gets afternoon sun, look at the next size up.

Why hot and cold suits Nepal

All three Samsung ACs in our list are hot and cold models. In heating mode they work as a heat pump: the outdoor unit draws heat from the outside air and moves it indoors. Energy Star explains that because a heat pump moves heat instead of making it, it uses less energy to warm a room than a conventional electric heater.

That is why these models are pitched at Kathmandu, Pokhara and other hill towns: one unit cools in summer and heats on cold valley mornings. The Samsung AI Hot & Cold Inverter AC is listed to heat with outdoor temperatures down to −15 °C and to cool with outdoor temperatures up to 46 °C.

Samsung lists a heating COP of 3.61 and an EER of 2.43 for the 1 ton version. COP, the coefficient of performance, compares the heat delivered with the energy put in. A higher COP means the machine needs less electricity for the same warmth.

The models on sale

Samsung AI Hot & Cold Inverter AC

The newest and most complete of the three, in 1, 1.5 and 2 ton. It has a BLDC inverter compressor, an A++ energy class, built-in Wi-Fi for the SmartThings app, and AI Auto Cooling, which adjusts to the room. Auto Clean dries the coil after use. The 1 ton indoor unit is listed at 38/19 dBA. It uses R32 refrigerant. Its warranty is listed as the official Samsung Nepal warranty, without a compressor term.

Samsung Hot & Cold Inverter AC

A simpler 2020 model in 1 and 2 ton, without Wi-Fi. Its Digital Inverter compressor carries a 10-year warranty, the only compressor term stated among the ACs in stock. The box includes 5 m of fitting pipe, extendable to 15 m in length and 7 m in height. The 2 ton draws up to 2,000 W when cooling and 1,890 W when heating.

Samsung Digital Inverter Hot & Cold AC

Out of stock now. It is a 3-star model in 1 and 1.5 ton, with Convertible 5-in-1 capacity, an anti-corrosion Durafin Ultra coil and Triple Protector Plus against voltage swings. It lists 1 year comprehensive and 10 years on the compressor.

Installation

• Samsung India's installation advice says the pipe between the indoor and outdoor units should be at least 3 m long, and the indoor unit should sit higher than the outdoor unit.
• Place the outdoor unit on a solid wall that can hold its weight, out of strong wind, direct sun and rain. A north-facing wall gets the least sun.
• Mount the indoor unit where nothing blocks its airflow and the air can reach the whole room, away from direct sunlight.
• Ask the seller what the installation price covers: how many metres of pipe, the outdoor stand, and wall drilling. The Samsung Hot & Cold Inverter AC includes 5 m of pipe, so ask what any extra length costs.

Running costs

Since Shrawan 2083 (mid-July 2026), VAT applies to household electricity in Nepal at 5%, eKantipur reports, so efficiency matters a little more. Samsung's guide notes that a higher star rating or efficiency figure means lower electricity use, though real savings depend on how you use the AC.

Buy the right tonnage for the room. Then use the Eco and Good Sleep modes that both in-stock models list, and keep the filter clean; the AI model has a filter-cleaning indicator to remind you.
