Single door, double door or side by side

Single door

Every Samsung single door in our list is a direct-cool fridge of 192 or 230 litres, with a small freezer compartment inside. Direct-cool fridges cost less, but ice builds up in the freezer and you defrost it by hand from time to time. All of them cost under 40,000 rupees. Double door

Double doors give the freezer its own door and run from 253 to 419 litres here. The Samsung Double Door RT40H and the 253 litre Samsung Double Door Digital Inverter are listed as frost free, so there is no ice to scrape out. The larger models use Twin Cooling Plus, which keeps fridge and freezer air separate. The 350, 396 and 419 litre models are Convertible 5-in-1: the freezer can switch to fridge mode when you need more cold space, for example during festivals. See the double door fridges.

Side by side

A side by side puts the freezer and fridge next to each other behind two tall doors, at 633 or 653 litres. It needs a wide space: the 653 litre model is 912 mm wide. Only the Samsung Side by Side Twin Cooling Plus is in stock now. See the side by side fridges.

How many litres for your family

Two Indian guides give similar ranges. Haier India and the consumer group Consumer Voice both put a couple at about 200 litres or less, and a family of four at roughly 250 to 350 litres.

Samsung India's own buying guide suggests larger fridges for each household size, up to 390 litres even for one or two people. If you shop once a week, cook in bulk or freeze a lot, size up.

Digital Inverter and the warranty

Every Samsung fridge in our list has a Digital Inverter compressor. Samsung says it adjusts its speed to the cooling needed, so it runs more quietly, uses less power and suffers less wear.

Four models list a warranty of 1 year comprehensive plus 10 years on the Digital Inverter compressor: the Samsung Single Door Digital Inverter, the Samsung Double Door Digital Inverter, the Samsung Bespoke AI Double Door and the Samsung Side by Side Convertible 5-in-1. Only the 192 litre single door of the four is in stock. The other models list the official Samsung Nepal warranty without a term, so ask the seller to write the compressor warranty on the bill.

Keep the bill and warranty card together. Samsung's warranty terms make proof of purchase a condition for any claim.

Voltage swings and stabilisers

Low voltage is still a problem in parts of Nepal. In June 2026 the Kathmandu Post reported homes in Bardiya where the voltage was too low to run a fan, and constant fluctuations had raised fears of damage to fridges and water pumps. The local electricity office said new transformers were needed.

Several Samsung models list stabiliser-free operation, including the Samsung Single Door Digital Inverter, the Samsung Single Door RR20C2Z226 and the Samsung Convertible 5-in-1 Double Door 350 L. Samsung India's support pages say this feature lets the compressor run between 135 and 290 volts. The same pages add two limits: not every Samsung fridge has it, and if your supply stays below 210 volts you should still use a stabiliser.

Energy stars

Only some models list a star rating. The Samsung Single Door Digital Inverter is 3 star, the Samsung Double Door Digital Inverter is 2 star, and the side by sides and the Bespoke 419 litre are 3 star. Consumer Voice advises choosing the model with more stars when two fridges are the same size, because it costs less to run. The 396 and 419 litre convertibles list AI Energy Mode, which the listings say trims power use by up to 10%.

Features worth paying for

• Base drawer: the Samsung Single Door Digital Inverter, Samsung Single Door RR20M282Z and Samsung Single Door RR24A272Z have a drawer in the base stand for onions and potatoes, which do not need cooling. The Samsung Single Door RR20T282Z has a non-cooled basket instead.
• Convertible modes: useful if you cook for guests a few times a year and want extra fridge space without buying a bigger fridge.
• Wi-Fi: the 396 and 419 litre convertibles and the side by sides connect to the SmartThings app, which shows temperatures and sends door alerts. You can skip it if you do not plan to use the app.
• Ice makers: the Samsung Side by Side Twin Cooling Plus has two, for gatherings. The Samsung Single Door RR20M282Z and Samsung Single Door RR20T282Z list a simple tray ice maker.
