Front load, top load or twin tub

Front load

A front loader turns the clothes in a horizontal drum. Samsung's buying guide says front loaders remove stains better, use much less water and electricity, treat delicate clothes more gently and spin out more water. The trade-off is a higher price. Top load

A top loader has a vertical drum and loads from above, so you do not bend. Samsung lists faster cycles, a lower starting price and the option to add a forgotten sock mid-wash. Both Samsung top loads here are 8 kg, fully automatic and spin at 700 rpm, so clothes come out wetter than from a front load. See the top load machines.

Twin tub (semi-automatic)

The Samsung Semi-Automatic Twin Tub washes in one tub and spins in the other. You fill it by hose or bucket and move the clothes across by hand. That suits homes on tank or tanker water, and it is the cheapest type. It has no inverter motor or EcoBubble, and it is out of stock right now.

Water supply and pressure

A fully automatic machine fills itself from the tap, so it depends on water pressure. Samsung's support pages say a home's water pressure must be between 20 and 116 psi (roughly 1.4 to 8 bar). Below 20 psi the water valve can fail or not shut off fully, and the machine stops if it takes too long to fill. Samsung also says the tap should be within 122 cm of the back of the washer.

Piped water is irregular in much of the Kathmandu Valley. In 2016 the Himalayan Times reported daily demand of about 370 million litres against a supply of about 110 million, with private tankers filling part of the gap. In July 2026 the Kathmandu Post reported that the Melamchi project, which supplies around 170 million litres a day, had stopped again after flood damage at its intake.

How many kilos you need

The kg figure is the machine's rated load per wash. Samsung's buying guide gives these sizes:

Size up if you wash blankets and curtains at home. The 12 kg machines are pitched at large families and heavy loads such as these.

Inverter motor and EcoBubble

Every Samsung machine in our list except the twin tub has a Digital Inverter motor and EcoBubble. Samsung explains that the inverter motor has no brushes, so there is less friction and wear. EcoBubble turns detergent and water into bubbles that soak into clothes quickly, so washing works well at low temperatures and uses less energy.

The motor warranties differ, so compare them before you buy:

• 20 years on the motor: the Samsung EcoBubble Top Load, the Samsung Bespoke AI Front Load 12 kg and the out-of-stock Samsung EcoBubble Front Load.
• 10 years on the motor: the Samsung Bespoke AI Front Load, with 2 years comprehensive.
• 5 years on the motor: the Samsung Semi-Automatic Twin Tub, with 2 years comprehensive.
• Official Samsung Nepal warranty, no motor term listed: the Samsung Ecobubble Top Load with BubbleStorm, Samsung AI Ecobubble Front Load SuperSpeed and Samsung AI Ecobubble Front Load 12 kg. Ask the seller to write the motor term on the bill.

Keep that bill. Samsung's warranty terms make proof of purchase a condition for a claim.
